Construction Phases & Zones

Rapid Fiber Internet’s fiber optic network will be built in 3 phases and 42 zones that correspond to the paths of the electric feeder lines that distribute power from Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative’s substations.

In determining the zones included in each phase and the order of their construction, we considered:

  • Poles and infrastructure “health”: How much work may need to be completed to accommodate the fiber optic cable.
  • Revenue projections: More densely populated areas where many people take service will generate revenues more quickly, thereby helping to ensure the entire project remains financially viable.
  • The location where direct internet access (DIA) is available. DIA is fully dedicated bandwidth that is not shared with other entities.

SVEC Internet Service Sign-Up Procedure for Zone Members

SVEC members will be notified through multiple channels when service becomes available in their zone. Before SVEC members within a zone can sign up for internet service the following 4 steps must be completed:

  1. Design/Engineering: Creating a digital blueprint for the fiber network.
  2. Make Ready: Preparing the power poles for fiber lines & relocating other utilities.
  3. Fiber Construction: Attaching fiber lines to the fiber poles.
  4. Fiber Splicing: Connecting fiber lines back to the hut, which is the source of the internet.

Zone Sequence & Status

To make service available to as many people as possible as soon as possible, the sequence of feeder/zone openings may change. We’re doing our best to ensure everything goes according to plan, but sometimes unexpected things happen during the construction of the fiber network.
